Better safe than sorry

Hoje falei sobre idioms em sala de aula. Isso me fez lembrar que já fazia muito tempo que eu não passava aqui com dicas novas! What a shame!

Para compensar o atraso, escolhi um provérbio superusado que previne ou antecipa eventos. Se você ainda não disse essa frase, provavelmente já ouviu da mãe ou da avó! Let’s check:

·        Better safe than sorry = {Melhor prevenir do que remediar}

Meaning: 

Be careful, avoid risks and possible injury

{Seja cuidadoso, evite riscos e possíveis doenças}

Example:

Terri told Alexandra to put on her seat belt, even for a short drive. “Better safe than sorry”, he said.

{Terri disse para Alexandra colocar o sinto de segurança mesmo quando for dirigir por perto. “Melhor prevenir que remediar”}.

Origin: 

As early as 400 years ago, people were cautioning others to go slowly, be cautious, don’t get into trouble, avoid accidents. By the early 1800 the phrase was “better sure than sorry”, but a half century later “sure” was out and “safe” was in.
